IT’S ABOUT TANGGUH (IN ENGLISH – STRONG)

“Ok, Gita, so this is your package, you will have to work for 12 hours a day and 7 days a week. Your schedule is 6 weeks onsite and 3 weeks offsite. You will do your medical check-up this week, once we will get the result of your Medical Check-Up, we will inform you when you will have to go to Tangguh”.

I remember those were the sentences what Mr. Tato told me after the interview day.  Those were the sentences what cause an exciting but also afraid feeling for me and my family. That job offering was responded by my relatives and friends negatively, consider they heard a lot about how hard and cruel are Papuans. But those sentences were the sentences what I believe can provide me more colors, experience and my live changing. October 8th, 2010 for the first time in my live I put my step in the airport, airplane and another place beside Jakarta, klaten, jember and kertosono. October 9th, 2010 was the first time I put my step in LNG Tangguh.

Tangguh is a LNG land site of British Petroleum. Tangguh is located in Bintuni Regency. To go to Tangguh, the employee should go to Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, Jakarta or Surabaya International Airport. From there, the BOEING 737 of Travira will bring us to Biak Airport. In Biak Airport we will wait for the next airplane but smaller to go to Babo Airport. In the first 2 years I went to Babo Airport by Beechcraft what can contain 18 passengers. In the last 1 year the beechcraft to go to Babo was replaced by Dash8 what can contain until 45 passengers. From Babo Airport we will have two options to reach site, either by boat or by helicopter. When the employee enter the site, they will be transferred to  their camps by bus. But no one can go into the site without passing the security check and front office check in first. And me, I was the one of some employee who joined in that front office team.

Tangguh is the place where I learnt about discipline and meticulousness what built my disposition to do the job. Mr. Tato was the first manager I had while I was in Tangguh. Unfortunately we weren’t being a colleague for a long time. But he was the one who pursued me to put a perfection and meticulous job as something important all the time. And the other person who inspired me in discipline and meticulousness what built my disposition to do the job is Mr. Gunter Weber.

Besides inspiring me in discipline and meticulousness, Mr. Gunter Weber also inspired me in being loyal. He works in Tangguh for long years. He was the person who known as perfectionist person. People in Tangguh call him Opa. It is to show how people respect him with his experience. I will give you very small examples. “This pot’s angle wasn’t right, it supposed to be diagonal then it will look right” (by the time correcting the position of the pot). I remember that I had to come back to him for several times because my report wasn’t meticulous enough, he found some correction what I didn’t realize before. One day I saw him showed how to clean the table correctly to the messhall staff, I saw him humble disposition from this experience, he doesn’t mind to do something what a Project Manager wasn’t supposed to do – clean the table, to make sure that everything under his responsibility are meticulous. He put his wife picture on his office and also on his desk. One day I heard him call her, he was talking warmly and call her “my dear”. Those memories are stick on my mind. Those actions are carving my personality, the personality what I bring until now.

Talking about loyalty, it reminds me to Kak Zainul. He was the person who has hidden but unbelievable skill in problem solving. He is meticulous person, but he has never pursued someone to be as meticulous as him. He was only care that his job should be done kindly. He is working for Indocater for long years also. People call him “dedengkot reception” consider he was there since the first year of Tangguh started running. He has a beautiful wife in Sorong. He always calls her whenever he finished working. Sometimes I was there when he made calls. He was making jokes with his wife, he made funny sounds, sometimes gentle. I can see that he is enjoying his conversation with her a lot. Kak Zainul was one of my some reasons to not quit from room management team when people do that.

I have some other people who inspired me a lot in Tangguh. Irna, the beautiful girl who is so silly and approachable. Pak Ketut, the balines guy who is funny and serious the same time. Pak Dudi and Pak Awan with their million tons of experiences. Pak Hendri and Pak Rianto who are always find us the new ideas to solve the POB problem to be implemented by us (room management team). Pak Amri, Pak Tamim, Kak Arisandi, Kak Tri, Kak Sandi wali, Kak Iren, Kak Mirna, Kak Lily, Kak Ratna, Pak Hadi, Pak Hendra, Pak Muji, Pak Sri, Glen, Mama Ode, Wati, Ranny, Magda, Rina, etc. I can’t mention them one by one. But really I do miss them.

Tangguh was the place where I met my first love, Tangguh was also the place where I felt really broken hearted. Tangguh was the first place I deal with many different cultures daily. Tangguh was the first place I felt wanted by people. Tangguh was the first place where I learnt about leadership. Tangguh was the place where I learnt to work in 1 big team – 1 team Tangguh. In Tangguh I was real alive.

I quit from Tangguh since March 2012, after my schedule was promoted to be 4 weeks onsite and 4 weeks offsite, and the decision to quit was caused by my will to please my family. But honestly I lost the half of myself when I leaved that site. But it’s ok, I have my own live now and it is not bad. If the chance to go back to Tangguh is zero, I will still be happy, at least some people notice that I love Tangguh a lot.
